In collaboration with, and hosted in the spaces of ULME 35, we present the first of four SALONs in 2026.
SALON is a participatory event that creates a space for dialogue and non-hierarchical exchange of knowledge.
Following a prompt, the public is invited to bring contributions from literature, art, music, film, and beyond. Images, texts, audio recordings, objects, or other materials can be briefly presented in digital or analog form and serve as starting points for an exchange of knowledge, questions, and discussions around the topic.
The first SALON: ULME focuses on Haus Ulmenallee 35 itself. It traces the history of the sanatorium built in 1887, its long period of vacancy, and its current use as a place of encounter and exchange.
During the Salon, the various contributions explored the term ‘ULME’ from different perspectives. ‘Ulme’ was presented as a plant, with its botanical characteristics, potential culinary uses and social function outlined. Its linguistic roots were also used fot a poetic experiment. The discussion then focused more specifically on the history of the Ulme 35 site, a place that formerly served as a psychiatric hospital – leading the group to explore the relationship between art and mental health issues – and which today stands as a successful example of the regeneration of a site for cultural and social purposes.
